TOP What is NOBUNAGA'S AMBITION: Taishi? Game Hints

Check resolve traits

Resolve traits vary depending on the daimyō. First check what each daimyō's strengths and weaknesses are, and then plan how to effectively use that information.
For example, Nobunaga Oda's resolve traits are Fixed Society and Easy Commerce. One of Fixed Society's effects is Modern Gear, which raises the strength of his infantry and lowers the cost of their stipends. On the other hand, because of the Transitioning Militia effect, the amount of provisions produced by militia decreases. If you use primarily infantry, then you can make Fixed Society work for you.
With the Easy Commerce trait's Free Trade effect, trade zones you have expanded into develop quicker. If you use the added income to pay for your infantry, you are using both traits effectively and you may be able to form a large force out of infantry.

Commerce Agriculture

Income is obtained from trade zones that you have expanded into.

Anything you do is going to cost gold. You receive gold every month from each trade zone.
First, send merchants to any of the dark trade zones in your territory and start earning income (Use the Civil command "Commerce" - "Expand").
If you form a Commerce Agreement, other clans can expand into your trade zone. Raise the opinion of nearby clans, form a commerce agreement and increase the number of trade zones you have a presence in. (Diplomacy command "Goodwill" , Diplomacy command "Negotiate" - "Commerce") Income from trade zones with multiple clans will be split between all participating clans based on their influence.
Also, at first, you will only be able to use commerce commands once a month. Using Policies such as "Extra Action 1" will allow you to increase the number of commands you can use.

Commerce Diplomacy

Strive for even greater income

You can increase your income from trade zones through investing. (Civil command "Commerce" - "Invest")
If other clans invest, your own influence will wane and you will receive less income. If you monopolize the zone, you drive out all other merchants and keep the income entirely for yourself. (Civil command "Commerce" - "Monopolize")
In addition, you can also increase your income by developing a "Trading Town" and raising its level. (Civil command "Develop")

Commerce

Increase the harvest with agriculture

Provisions are required to march your men into the field and fight. Every September, you receive a large amount of provisions as a harvest.
Agriculture commands change depending on the season. If you use them to raise your farmland, water control, productivity, and fertility levels, you can increase the amount of provisions you will receive. (Civil command "Agriculture")

Agriculture commands use gold, labor, fertilizer, and seeds.
Labor, fertilizer, and seeds are shared between all bases, and are replenished once a year in September. It is important that you keep track of which command uses what resource and plan your usage accordingly.

Agriculture

Agriculture early on in the game

With limited gold and labor at first, you are unable to do that many agricultural commands. At times like this, Labor Exemptions are very useful. Popularity increases, causing productivity to increase, which in turn, increases the harvest. However, keep in mind you will be unable to do any commands that require labor. Another thing to keep in mind is that if your popularity is low, a revolt may occur and you will be unable to issue agriculture commands or recruit. It is better to keep your popularity high.
In March and December, you should check which of your bases gives the best harvest and use the fertilizer and seeds there.
In addition, you can increase your September harvest by developing a "Reservoir." Developing a "Fishing Town" will earn you a slight amount of provisions each month. (Civil command "Develop")

Manage the population

As farmland increases, refugees can become farmers and help raise productivity (Civil command "Agriculture" - "Clear"). If you recruit them, they can also become infantry and be added to your military strength (Military command "Recruit").
However, if battle occurs, their numbers will decrease and, if popularity is low, will not grow back. To get more refugees to visit you, you must make sure not to have long drawn out battles and to raise your popularity.
Developing a "Post town" will increase your number of refugees, while constructing a "Tea town" will raise popularity. (Civil command "Develop")
Check Base Info under "Popularity" for the primary factors for what is affecting your popularity.

Increasing soldiers

It would not be a lie to say that the number of soldiers determines the fate of the battle.
There are 2 types of soldiers, infantry and militia. In the beginning you will primarily use militia to fight. Militia do lose morale in battle quickly, but do not cost gold. Also, although not as much as farmers, they do also provide you with some provisions.
Once you've saved up a bit of gold, try recruiting infantry. They do cost gold, but are powerful soldiers and they do not take any of your farmers away from the field so your harvest does not decrease.

Recruit

Making Diplomacy skills work for you

Cooperate with other clans and aim for even greater growth.
By forming a commerce agreement, the merchants of both countries are able to enter the others trade zones and increase income. (Diplomacy command "Negotiate" - "Commerce Agreement")
If you form an alliance, your ally will not invade you. Also they will be more likely to send you aid if you are attacked. (Diplomacy command "Negotiate" - "Alliance") For a small clan, having reinforcements allows you to face off against stronger enemies. (Diplomacy command "Reinforecment")
Use View Mode to check the alliances of nearby clans and where they are currently invading.

Negotiate Reinforcement

Declare war on an enemy clan

Battle will start when you declare war on an enemy force. (Military command "Declare War")
Make sure to check the alliances of nearby clans in advance.
Allied clans and clans with a high opinion of your clan have a greater probability of joining your allied camp. When they join your camp, they bring goods.
In the same way, it is important to analyze your enemy's situation as well. Depending on their alliances and opinions, there may be reinforcements for their camp that you must take into account in your strategies or you might lose.

Declaring War Goodwill

Onward into battle

Send your soldiers into the enemy base and defeat your enemy in the ensuing battle. (Military command "March")
The numbers of soldiers that can participate in battle depends on the battlefield (county). Even if you are at the head of a huge force, there are times when they won't all be able to fight. On the other hand, if you have to fight a large force, luring them into a battlefield where only limited soldiers are allowed is a fine strategy.
Also, if you arrive at the battlefield before the enemy, you have a chance to set up outposts. When you have outposts, the battle gauge will swing your way, and even if you are stuck defending, there's a good chance for victory.
Also, developing facilities will give you an advantage in battle. (Civil command "Develop")

Patrol Post Increase soldier limits for your clan on battlefields within range.
Bulwark Decrease both your and your enemy's soldier limits on battlefields in nearby counties.
Fortress When doing battle on battlefields in nearby counties, your outposts become fortresses, and your range of vision will be expanded. Also, the battle gauge will work for you.
Drill Ground Unit morale of units that march from bases that neighbor this will increase. Can be built in a county that neighbors a base.

Marching

Carry out a strategy

If you direct your unit according to the strategy set during your battle prep, you will fight at an advantage.
For example, "Leader Rush," is a strategy that has a selected unit charging the enemy general as soon as he is found.
Since its only purpose is to take out the general, it is effective when the general does not have many men or when trying for an upset.
The unit to charge is pre-selected. Confirm with Unit Info. When the enemy general is found, that unit's attack increases, but you are unable to issue commands to them.

Battle

Fighting in Battle

At the start of battle, you don't know where enemy units are located. Their probable locations are displayed. As you get close, you will discover them. Since at that point you will know their precise location, you can move to attack them. Catching them between multiple units is very effective. (Pincer Attack)
As the battle goes on, morale will decrease. When it reaches 0, they will not listen to your commands and will begin to flee. (Broken state)
The battle gauge will reflect this, so when your morale is down, you should move your units to the rear.

Learn to use tactics

In battle, officers will suggest tactics. If you use the tactics, you will take special actions, like bravely attacking, or will gain boosts to your unit parameters. But again, they stop listening to commands, so be careful.
Tactical effects can be checked through officer lines and icons. There are even some tactics that will send you fleeing to the rear or that will lower enemy stats, as well.

Win a castle defense, steal a base

Upon winning the battle, surround the enemy base. With the army, you can either "Blockade" or "Storm". If you have only a small amount of soldiers and don't want to get them all killed, choose Blockade. If you don't have a lot of provisions and want to take the castle quickly, then Storm it. When either morale or soldiers are reduced to 0, you've captured the castle.

Castle Defense

Dealing with prisoners

Officers are captured in battles and/or castle defense battles. You can try to employ them or even execute them (They will no longer appear in the game.). However, immediate members of the clan cannot be employed unless their country is destroyed first.
Actively employ officer with high abilities. If you bind them to you with marriage, they won't betray you even if they are captured.

Daimyō

Managing soldiers

Soldiers are attached to a base.
After a battle is over, soldiers return to their original base, even if the officer ends up staying at the newly captured base. They cannot be moved to a new base.
Prepare for the next battle by moving officers to a base on the front lines and start to recruit the needed soldiers.

Preparing horses and muskets

Equipping soldiers with horses or muskets while marching allows them the use of special tactics. To do so, however, you do need to have the same number of horses or muskets as men.
Horses are effective in battles on open plains and can use the "Charge" tactic. They are good for straight attacks. The "Muskets" tactic allows the unit to make long range attacks.
Horses and muskets are valuable and expensive, so buy them when you have saved up a bit of gold. (Civil command "Trade") Muskets can be obtained every month by expanding into a trade zone that has a gunsmith.
In addition, developing a "Ranch" and a "Forge" will eventually yield you horses and muskets every month. (Civil command "Develop")

Marching Trade

Choose sides or not

When a battle occurs in a nearby region, you are sometimes asked which clan you want to side with.
Siding with one side does not mean you will immediately be embroiled in the battle. Since the Opinion of the clan you side with will rise, be sure to side with the clan you want to be friends with.
Keep in mind that not siding with a clan you are allied to will lower their Opinion of you.

Choose side

If asked for reinforcements

If you choose sides or are in an alliance, you may be asked for reinforcements.
If you accept, you then choose which castles to loan out. Units will automatically be formed and join the forces of the clan asking for help.
The unit will remain there for 6 months or until you request their return. (Diplomacy command "Return")
Their Opinion of you might worsen if you refuse to send reinforcements, or if you request the return of your force even though you are in an alliance.

Return

Negotiating with other clans

There will be many opportunities to negotiate with other clans using Diplomacy commands. You must carefully consider whether you will agree or disagree and the consequences of each in making your decision.
Forming a commerce agreement with a large clan allows you access to many trade zones. However, with a small clan, you don't receive as much of a benefit and your influence in your trade zones could be usurped, leaving you with less of a gold balance.
If you are initiating a negotiation (Diplomacy command "Negotiate"), you will sometimes be asked for some very strict conditions. If their Opinion of you is high or if it is an urgent situation, these conditions become somewhat lighter. When in trouble, it is better to approach a clan you are on very good terms with for help.

Making another clan a vassal

You can request that another clan become your vassal. (Diplomacy command "Negotiate" - "Vassal") Sometimes, someone might ask you to become their vassal. Doing so will put you into a semi-permanent alliance, and requests like those for reinforcements become more likely to be fulfilled.
Also if your vassal clan has a maiden, then you can adopt her.
Note: A vassal can no longer form an alliance with any other clan.

If invaded by an enemy

If an enemy invades, stop the game with Advance button. The March command can be used at any time, so quickly form an army and counter attack them.
Even if you're already on the march, you can select an army and change the target of your march.
If you have only a small amount of soldiers at your base, then ask for reinforcements. (Diplomacy command "Reinforcement") If you still can't fight them off, you could try to sue for peace (Diplomacy command "Negotiate" - "Peace"), though you will likely have to accept some severe conditions.

Marching Reinforcement

If you have doubts about a Resolve

You cannot deliberately change an officer's Resolve.
If you want to change the Resolve for the clan, then have your Daimyō retire. (Daimyō command "Retire") When selecting a successor, you will have the choice of carrying on the previous Daimyō's Resolve or of making the Resolve of the newest Daimyō, the Resolve for the clan.
Note: If you choose to carry on the Resolve of the former Daimyō, then all of the unlocked Trait Eff. or the activated policies will continue on. If you choose that of the new Daimyō, then what is unlocked will be determined by the Resolve of the new Daimyō. In addition, all policies will be returned to their original status, and you will receive an equivalent amount of Policy power.

Act based on Quests.

Quests are play goals created for each officer.
Quests are based on history, and by acting based on these quests, you will find it easier to expand your territory. Also, by completing all the quests for a character, that character's overall abilities is increased.
Conditions and time periods for each quest can be found through the bottom bar on the strategy phase screen. It can be checked by selecting Report list - Quests.
