Hello everyone. This is Kou Shibusawa, Executive Producer of the ROMANCE OF THE THREE KINGDOMS series.
This year on 10th December 2025, the ROMANCE OF THE THREE KINGDOMS series will celebrate its 40th anniversary. We have been able to continue working on this series for so long thanks to everyone’s unwavering support. Thank you very much.
40 years ago in 1985, the Three Kingdoms story was not very well known in Japan. I wanted more people to know about the Three Kingdoms story that I loved, so I developed “ROMANCE OF THE THREE KINGDOMS” as a simulation game, and from there we have released many ROMANCE OF THE THREE KINGDOMS related games while continuing to evolve the series. And now 40 years later, many people are now familiar with ROMANCE OF THE THREE KINGDOMS and characters such as Liu Bei, Cao Cao, Sun Quan, Guan Yu, Zhuge Liang, regardless of genre.
I think that the popularization of ROMANCE OF THE THREE KINGDOMS over these 40 years is greatly influenced by mangas, novels, puppet theater and, of course, games.
Up until now, we’ve used various formats to let everyone know about the allure of ROMANCE OF THE THREE KINGDOMS through games, including spin-off works. And even now there are many people playing the games beyond the numbered series, including titles such as “100man-nin no Sangokushi” and “Romance of the Three Kingdoms Hadou.”
Next year, we will be releasing “ROMANCE OF THE THREE KINGDOMS 8 REMAKE: Destiny and Strategy Expansion Pack Bundle” to celebrate the series’ 40th anniversary.
“ROMANCE OF THE THREE KINGDOMS 8 REMAKE”, the largest remake in the series’ history which features over 1,000 fascinating officers, beautiful graphics and tales of a variety of human drama, will be powered up. We are currently working very hard and enthusiastically to create a Three Kingdoms experience that can be enjoyed for a very long time, so I hope you will look forward to its release.
We will continue to take on various challenges to convey the allure of the Three Kingdoms to even more people through the gaming experience.
I hope you will continue to support the ROMANCE OF THE THREE KINGDOMS series.
