Debates

The Debates in the game allow officers to engage in a battle of wits, rather than blades. They can be used in a variety of scenes, from diplomatic missions to strategic councils, as well as in hiring officers.
There are multiple commands to choose from to subdue your opponent, including Assert, Retort, Focus, Insist, and Provoke. Watch as heated words are exchanged between the two participating officers.

The two brilliant minds from Chibi, Zhuge Liang and Zhou Yu, engage in a more elegant form of combat.

Each of the commands has their relative strengths to the others, so it is important to anticipate which commands your opponent will use.

If your use of Provoke succeeds against your opponent, they will be unable to use Retort or Insist for their next turn.
Provoke can be used by consuming Wisdom during the Debate.

Provoke will limit your opponent's commands, allowing you to instantly turn the tables with a command like Insist during the next round.
In order to use Insist again, you will need to wait until you accumulate enough Wisdom.

If you have an officer you share a Bond with, they may help you recover Health or Wisdom during the Debate.

You will win the Debate if your opponent's Health reaches 0, or you have more Health than your opponent after five turns have elapsed. Winning a Debate can increase the Experience of your Intelligence rating as well.

Defeating a powerful officer in a Debate can increase your respect amongst other officers, as well as make it easier to gain Rapport with them, or to use the Mentor command with them, all of which can greatly contribute to your officer's development.

Duels

Duels with other officers can occur during battles, while using the Patrol or Mentor commands, and various other instances.
These Duels are portrayed through the use of vivid 3D graphics and let you fight using the following commands: Attack, Defend, Focus, Knockout, and Unbalance.

This feature lets you recreate famous duels such as the one between the brave Guan Yu and the mighty Lu Bu.

Each command has its own strengths and weaknesses relative to the others, making it important to select commands that can defeat those of your opponent.

If you are hit with the Unbalance command by your opponent, you will be unable to use Defend or Knockout on your next turn.
Using Unbalance requires the use of Spirit.

Conversely, if you use Unbalance against your opponent, you can follow up with the use of Knockout in the next round to instantly turn the tables on your foe.
In order to use Unbalance again, you will need to wait until you accumulate enough Spirit.

If you have an officer you share a Bond with, they may help you recover Health or Spirit during the Duel.

You will win the Duel if your opponent's Health reaches 0, or you have more Health than your opponent after five turns have elapsed. Winning a Duel can increase the Experience of your War rating as well.

Defeating a powerful officer in a Duel can cause other officers to be Charmed, which makes it easier to gain Rapport with them, or to use the Mentor command with them, all of which can greatly contribute to your officer's development.
